Breaking Poll: Strong Majority of Minnesota Voters Support Switch to Ranked Choice Voting

Published on March 3, 2023

A new poll, released on March 2, 2023, shows that Minnesota voters strongly support the implementation of Ranked Choice Voting (RCV) in statewide elections. Conducted by Expedition Strategies, the poll finds that a majority — 54% — of voters support RCV and that the more they learn about this reform, the more they support it. In fact, support among respondents climbs to 64% when they understand its benefits. The poll was conducted on a representative sample of voters — including Democrats, Republicans, and independents — from across the state.

This poll validates the tens of thousands of conversations FairVote Minnesota organizers and volunteers had at the doors in 2022 with voters across Minnesota. Voters are tired of the extremism and negativity that have come to define our elections. Adopting a Ranked Choice Voting system via the newly-introduced Protect and Advance Democracy Act is one of the best steps we can take to ensure winners have broad majority support, reduce political extremism and division, foster more civil and inclusive elections, and strengthen our democracy for future generations.
