FairVote Minnesota Job Opportunities: Paid Canvassers

Details: Paid canvass positions are temporary positions through November 2nd, 2021. Hours can be flexible, with both part time and full time opportunities.

Compensation Rate: $20 per hour

FairVote Minnesota is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization at the forefront of the Ranked Choice Voting (RCV) movement, one of the most significant political reforms in generations. From giving voters more choice to ensuring candidates with majority support to reducing polarization in our politics, RCV is transforming politics in Minnesota and across the country. This fall, Minneapolis, St. Paul, St. Louis Park, Bloomington, and Minnetonka will use RCV for their municipal elections. Never before have we had five Minnesota cities – representing 16% of Minnesota voters – conducting RCV elections at the same time!  We are hiring a team of canvassers to help us educate voters in cities using RCV this fall. We seek committed, dynamic team members who have experience successfully working with diverse populations. 

Responsibilities

  • Canvassing and voter outreach in Minneapolis to educate voters on RCV for xxxx hours a week.
  • Effectively explaining RCV to voters at the doors and at community events and forums.
  • Efficiently keeping track of conversations and recording the results using miniVAN.
  • Providing both qualitative and quantitative reports on canvasses and conversations to the Campaign Manager.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • One cycle of professional experience canvassing for a political or issue campaign (preferred)
  • Ability to explain how RCV works in Minnesota in a positive and accurate manner.
  • Willingness to work in a fast paced and demanding but fulfilling environment which may include evening and weekend hours
  • Understanding of Minnesota politics – can effectively adapt to tie the need for RCV to the concerns of the voter.
  • Honesty in reporting the results of conversations.
  • Professionalism 100% of the time while on the job.
  • Transportation and smartphone required.
  • Proof of Covid-19 vaccination required

Availability during evenings and weekends, and fluency in languages other than English spoken in the Twin Cities Metro is a plus.

FairVote Minnesota Internship Opportunities: Fall Democracy Internship

 

The Democracy Intern will work with the Organizing Team or other organizational leadership at FairVote Minnesota as a critical team member in FairVote Minnesota’s voter education and outreach efforts during Fall 2021. This position may be fully remote or include some in person organizing events, depending on interest and safety protocols. Interns are empowered to bring their skill set to the position, and we welcome interns from a variety of college majors or backgrounds to apply. 

Depending on interest and Covid safety requirements, intern tasks may include the following: 

  • voter outreach, including phone banking, canvassing, and if Covid safety protocols allow, tabling at community events;
  • data entry and tracking organizing progress;
  • working with volunteers and diverse stakeholders in municipal elections, and 
  • preparing and assisting with communications in traditional and digital media. 

FairVote MN works with interns to construct an internship experience that matches each person’s skills and interests. After the municipal election, the intern may also contribute to preparing for the upcoming legislative session and helping to educate voters across the state about RCV.

Key competencies of a successful intern: flexibility in a rapidly changing campaign season; strong interpersonal, verbal and written communications skills, a team-oriented attitude, and a passion for connecting with folks and empowering them to rank their vote. Availability during evenings and weekends, and fluency in languages other than English spoken in the Twin Cities Metro is a plus.
